St Leo’s College Archbishop Sir James Duhig Memorial Lecture & Dinner is the longest running college lecture and dinner held annually at The University of Queensland.
The Duhig has been delivered by serving Prime-ministers, Leaders of the Opposition, Justices of the High Court and Supreme Courts, Premiers, nationally significant media personalities – notably Kerry O’Brien & Geraldine Doogue, novelists Thomas Keneally & Bryce Courtenay, musicians, playwrights and businessmen.
Inaugurated in 1979, this event honours Archbishop Sir James Duhig, the late Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane and major benefactor of St Leo’s College and member of The University of Queensland Senate for over 50 years.
The theme of the Duhig Lecture & Dinner is ‘the cultural development of Australian society’. To be invited as a guest speaker to deliver this annual lecture is one of the highest honours that the College can confer.
