Cultural Scholarship Holders 2017

September 1, 2017

As we have been doing this in each of the newsletters this year, we are highlighting our scholarship holders.

In this edition we turn our attention to the cultural scholarship holders at Leo’s this year.

Declan Roberts

Declan came to St Leo’s from the Gold Coast and attended Somerset College where he won many awards for cultural pursuits.

Declan is an accomplished musician and plays tuba and baritone saxophone. Using the former instrument Declan participated in the Queensland Conservatorium SHEP program for five years, playing in first chair for two of those.

Additionally Declan is a good singer – performing in a number of school vocal groups. In fact his school choir was named 2016’s most outstanding Secondary School Choir at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. Declan put his vocal talents to good use when he represented St Leo’s in Choralfest where we came in third place. In the photos below, Declan is pictured second from the right.

Abhijith Abraham

Abhijith graduated from Ignatius Park College in Townsville where he represented the school , city and state in various cultural and sporting competitions. For his last three years of High School Abhijith was the Senior Debating Captain at his school. Following on from this he was named the Queensland Public Speaking Champion in 2016. He brought those skills with him to Leo’s where he was a big part of our debating team which came third in the ICC competition.

Not only has Abhijith represented Leo’s at debating he was also part of the Leo’s team which reached the finals of the College’s Great Court Race this year and has been a part of the soccer team which came third. Abhijith is pictured second from the right in the left hand image.
